Posted by Laura McPeck, Director of Total Quality, Business Development

In 2006, engineers held about 1.5 million jobs. Chemical engineers made up 30,000 of these professionals; 29% of chemical engineers were employed in chemical manufacturing. Chemical engineers are seeing an increased diversity in professional opportunities, including biotechnological industries, as well as outside the world of engineering. Other employers, particularly in the finance sector, appreciate the logical analysis and problem-solving skills of chemical engineers, coupled with their high numerical abilities, teamwork and communication skills. The sectors in which chemical engineers find themselves working is extremely broad, ranging through food and drink, oil and gas, water, energy, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics to the more traditional areas of chemicals and petro-chemicals.
